World Youth Day (WYD) attendees from Catholic secondary schools around the diocese, gathered at Rooty Hill on October 24 to reflect on their WYD experience.

Students were joined by members of parish youth groups, the Trojan Youth Mission Team, Caritas, St Vincent De Paul and Young Christian Students. Students in Years 10 and 11 were able to discuss their experience of WYD and look at avenues for their faith, including social justice initiatives, prayer and reflection opportunities and parish-based groups.

Speaking about what inspired their faith, students from Gilroy Catholic College, Castle Hill said they were inspired by the pilgrims who stayed at their school. These pilgrims committed to a long journey into the unknown for their faith. Students from Caroline Chisholm College, Glenmore Park added that they were inspired by seeing young people being open about their faith and celebrating it publicly.

Bishop Manning joined the students for a liturgy and challenged them to do something worthwhile with their WYD experience.

‘World Youth Day was a great event. You probably experienced for the first time what is meant by the universal Church, but what now? What are you going to do to consolidate that experience into your personal life and community life? How will World Youth Day help you make the world a better place?' asked Bishop Manning.
