Fees
The Parramatta Diocesan Catholic Schools Council has approved a five percent increase in annual tuition fees for 2009. This increase is necessary to compensate for the educational CPI increase of 4.7 percent and the gap in government funding.
The building levy which supports capital works in diocesan schools will also be increased to $480 per family per annum – an increase of $45 or less than $1 per week. The NSW state government interest subsidy scheme was abolished last year and the delay in implementing the replacement scheme has created significant uncertainty and reduced levels of state funding for capital projects. The increase in the building levy will partly contribute to this funding shortfall.
Executive Director of Schools, Greg Whitby said that it is unfortunate but necessary to ask families to contribute to the rising costs of education.
‘I understand that with the current financial situation, some families will find these increases difficult to pay. If this is the case, I would encourage them to meet with their school principal who has the discretion to allow arrangements for extra time to pay, as well as grant fee concessions to families experiencing financial hardship. There is an assessment process in place to help principals decide on the type of assistance needed.’
Scholarships are also available to eligible students and are awarded on the basis of financial need.
The new fee structure for 2009 will be:
School fees
Primary $1,059 Increase of $51
Secondary (Year 7, 8) $1,338 Increase of $63
Secondary (Year 9,10) $1,482 Increase of $72
Secondary (Year 11,12) $1,893 Increase of $90
Building Levy $480 Increase of $45 per family
Sibling discounts of 25% for the second child, 50% for the third child and 100% for the fourth and subsequent children still apply for students attending systemic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta, St Dominic's College (Kingswood), and systemic schools in the bordering Archdiocese of Sydney and Dioceses of Wollongong and Broken Bay.
The Diocese of Parramatta gave over $5 million in sibling discounts in 2008.
